Matevž Langus, slovenski slikar in freskant, * 9. september 1792, Kamna Gorica pri Kropi, † 19. julij 1855, Ljubljana. Rodil se je v fužinarskem kraju pod Jelovico v kovaški družini. Sprva je delal kot žebljar v domači vasi, nato pa se je šolal v Celovcu v delavnici Johanna Schreibersa, pri katerem je ostal šest let. Leta 1817 se je vrnil na Kranjsko in se naselil v Ljubljani. Kasneje bil po priporočilu profesorja Kavčiča sprejet na dunajsko akademijo, vendar je zaradi gmotnih težav opravil le dva letnika študija. Leta 1821 se je ponovno naselil v Ljubljani kot poklicni slikar. Samuel King
1748-1819 Samuel King Gallery American painter, carver and nautical instrument maker. He was the son of Benjamin King, a mathematical and nautical instrument maker of Newport, RI. Samuel King's early portrait of the Rev. Ezra Stiles (New Haven, CT, Yale U. A.G.) is undoubtedly his masterpiece and a tour de force of symbolism. The portrait was begun in 1770 and completed on 1 August 1771. It shows the interest of the instrument maker in detail and exactitude of delineation. King's other known portraits show no such originality and in the main reflect compositions taken from portraits known to have been hanging in Newport at the time or from English prints. Since Samuel King and Charles Bird King (unrelated) were neighbours on Clarke Street in Newport, he probably influenced Charles Bird King. Washington Allston and Ann Hall (1792-1863) were both Samuel King's pupils.

1868-1932 Dutch Johan Thorn Prikker Gallery Dutch painter, printmaker, mosaicist and stained-glass artist. He attended the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in The Hague (1881-8). During this period he painted mainly landscapes in the style of The Hague school. Until c. 1896 he produced Symbolist works, in which the emphatic line flow and the subtle colour shading are especially noticeable, for example The Bride (1893; Otterlo, Kr?ller-M?ller). From 1892 until 1897 he corresponded with Henri Borel, partly about his Symbolist work, often drawing in the letters. During this time he came into close contact with Belgian artists, in particular with Henry Van de Velde through whom he was able to exhibit with Les XX in Brussels. In summer he regularly stayed in Vise, where he produced pastel drawings in a rhythmic pointillism, a style with which he could achieve a form of abstraction.
